Tyler Perry is a Strong, Brave Man

I like Tyler Perry…as an artist and as a person.  He seems like a genuine person who hasn’t been jaded by the industry.

I must admit, however, that I initially questioned the reasoning behind his upcoming appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show in which he’d discuss his having been physically and sexually abused as a child.  Was he coming on the show to gain publicity  for his upcoming movie, For Colored Girls

After seeing his genuine tears and pain, I now know otherwise.  I felt his pain and wished I could take it away.  It made me sad to think how many people have gone through similar experiences.

During the interview with Winfrey, Perry explained that he never came forward with the entire hideous story of his childhood because he wanted to protect his mother whom died last December.  After her death, he felt he could share his story; he needed to share his horrific experiences.

In doing so, perhaps Perry will help others come forward in an effort to deal with their own experiences of abuse.
